Man charged after alleged scissor attack outside Melbourne police station

A man has been charged after allegedly attacking a woman and her young son with a pair of scissors outside a police station in Melbourne’s central business district, according to reporting by The Guardian and AAP. Police allege the man punched the boy and stabbed his mother while she was protecting him. The woman and child were visiting Melbourne from Cowes, a township on Phillip Island, when the incident occurred. Both were taken to hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Police do not believe the alleged attacker and the victims knew one another. The accused man, who is from Sunshine West in Melbourne’s inner west, was charged overnight with several assault-related offences. The charges include affray, intentionally causing injury, two counts of unlawful assault, conduct endangering life and conduct endangering serious injury. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The allegations have not been tested in court.
