Firefighters Use Water to Rescue Pet Macaw From California Tree

A pet parrot that had remained on a high tree branch for several days was brought safely back to the ground by firefighters in Oroville, California, according to Cal Fire of Butte County. The City of Oroville Fire Department learned about the bird during a call for service last week. Cal Fire later described the rescue on social media, noting that crews typically leave birds alone when they are simply perched in a tree. This case was different because the bird was an exotic pet and had been stuck for multiple days. During the effort, the owner coaxed the parrot from below. Firefighters also used small amounts of water to encourage the bird to move downward. The operation ended with the parrot safely removed from the tree and reunited with its owner, whom officials referred to as the bird’s “father.” The fire department did not identify the parrot’s exact type. However, a photograph released with the account appeared to show a military macaw. That identification was not confirmed by the department.
