Hawaiian Pilot Whales Were Found With Pounds of Plastic in Their Stomachs
A University of Hawaiʻi study found that nearly 23% of short-finned pilot whales stranded across the main Hawaiian Islands over 13 years had ingested marine debris. Three adult males contained large masses of fishing gear, plastic bags and other material weighing up to 12 pounds each.
