The Iowa State Fair has added a notably domestic twist to its lineup of unusual competitions: a mom calling contest.
In the event, children stood at a microphone in front of an audience and called for their mothers. Judges then evaluated the calls, although the report noted that the judges were presumably not the contestants’ mothers.
The contest was presented alongside other unconventional fair competitions, including an ugliest cake contest and a husband calling contest. The husband event was described as resembling a traditional hog-calling competition, with husbands taking the place of hogs as the people being summoned.
According to Neatorama, which attributed its information to the Des Moines Register, the winner of the mom calling contest was 8-year-old Vivien Sullivan.
